In 2006, Nate Wald traveled to Argentina to meet and study with some of the greatest rawhide braiders in the Gaucho tradition. This set of Santa Ynez style reins and romal shows the influence of that fruitful exchange of knowledge. Built with four twelve plait bodies and a twenty-four plait romal, both the romal and reins are distinguished by the inclusion of a Gaucho design known as “Farolito” or “The little lantern”. The rein bodies are braided with newborn calf rawhide, while the very fine Farolito buttons are braided from horse rawhide. The braiding has been antiqued using a natural dye to blend the color of the different animal hides. All of the rawhide strings for this work were hand cut and beveled in the Gaucho tradition using a knife. Sale price $27,900
This detail shows the intricate braiding of the Argentine farolito, or 'little lantern', braiding pattern. Each farolito is made of 16 separate buttons of horse rawhide. Sale price $27,900
A light reata is desired for roping calve at the branding fire. The fifty foot long, six plait reata is a 9/32-inch diameter and made distinctive through the edition of an engraved steel honda fabricated by Ernie Marsh. Sale price $4,200
Ernie Marsh’s deep engraving with inlaid fine silver and French grey finish are highlighted by the TCAA logo in 24K gold on this beautiful light reata made by Nate Wald for this show. Sale price $4,200
Once again blending two braiding traditions, these hobbles were created with an eight-teen plait Argentine Trenza Patria flat braid. The buttons are made of newborn calf rawhide with black interweave. Sale price $3,500
